Why Chiropractic?
Doctors of Chiropractic adjust the spine with their hands to allow for proper motion within the spinal column. This will decrease pressure or tension off the spinal nerves and allow the brain to communicate more effectively to the body. In doing so, the body functions more effectively and heals faster and easier. Spinal adjustments can help relieve a spectrum of ailments such as headaches, migraines, back pain, menstrual cramps, allergies, asthma, stomach disorders, as well as arm, hand, and leg pain that can be due to improper motion of the spine! We call this improper motion a 'Subluxation.'
A study reported on WebMD found the satisfaction rate with chiropractic to be 95%!
What Is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a branch of the healing arts that focuses on the CAUSE of dis-ease within your body. The Science, Philosophy, and Art of Chiropractic are built on the premise that your body is a self-healing & self-regulating organism.
(You don't have to worry about how to heal a wound; your body heals itself. You also don't have to worry about regulating blood pressure, secreting hormones, etc; your body does it on its own.)
A disruption in your body's normal function can result in a subluxation (a misalignment) in your spine. A subluxation can also lead to dysfunction of your body's normal function. It goes both ways! Subluxations create nerve interference of the communcation system with your brain and your body. With nerve interference, your body cannot communcate within itself, and this leads to diminished cellular function and can even lead to cell death. With decreased cell function, we are vulnerable to dis-ease and ultimately disease.
Chiropractors are the only licensed healthcare professionals that can adequately locate and detect vertebral subluxations. When we eliminate the subluxation, we can improve nerve function with the brain and body and can ultimately heal faster and even help prevent disease!
A Chiropractor will remove the subluxation via an 'adjustment' to allow for proper nerve flow and motion of the joint. Many methods exist to adjust the spine. We will use what is appropriate for you.
What Happens during a Chiropractic Examination?
A chiropractor will take a thorough health history, and then conduct a physical, neurological, and orthopedic examination. Chiropractic physicians spend a considerable amount of time assessing posture, examining the spine, testing reflexes, joint motion, and muscle strength. X-rays and other diagnostic images are often used to help locate vertebral subluxations and to rule out pathologies or fractures, which require the attention of other healthcare experts.
What Training Do Chiropractors Have?
Chiropractors are licensed in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. A rigorous course of study is necessary to receive a degree of Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.). According to the American Chiropractic Association, there are over 60,000 D.C.s practicing in the Untied States. All state licensing boards require two to four years of undergraduate education, and completion of a four-year chiropractic college course.
Doctors of chiropractic are uniquely trained in structural health and are highly skilled in spinal manipulation.
When you visit a doctor of chiropractic, you will know that your doctor is qualified to perform the procedures skillfully and safely and that your chiropractor is concerned about your health and wellness.
