Why should I ever go to the chiropractor?
Simply put, chiropractic care is great "Spinal Hygiene." Think about this question for a moment...
You go to the dentist, probably every six months.. But why? Well, the dentist can fix stuff (performing root canals) and prevent stuff (cavities).
Chiropractic is no different. We can fix stuff and we can even prevent stuff from happening.
We can help with a whole host of conditions, including but not limited to:
  • Migraines/Headaches
  • Midback Pain
  • Lowback Pain
  • Nerve Irritation
  • Muscle Pain/Problems
We can also prevent deterioration of the spine by making sure joints are moving properly and adequately. This increases the lifespan of the joint and YOUR HEALTH!
Are you actually "cracking" my back?
No, if we were actually "cracking" your back, it probably wouldn't feel very good. We are actually moving joints that have become stuck.
What is that popping sound?
The "popping" or "cracking" sound you may hear is coming from gas that built up within the joint cavity over time and has been released. (Think of a champagne bottle when you first open it)
Is it bad to crank of my neck and back myself?
YES! Please do not try to manipulate your own spine. It can actually be detrimental to your spine. Chiropractors are very meticulous in their assessment of which joints need to be adjusted, and which ones do not. Only a licensed chiropractor can determine this correctly.
Additionally... Yes, it may feel good to attempt to adjust yourself from time to time. However, you may be manipulating joints that do not need it, and therefore, these joints become very unstable. If you are not a chiropractor, then you could ultimately be doing much more harm than good because you can be wearing out your spine. Remember, you only get one! There is no such thing as a spinal transplant!
How does a bone get 'fixated' or stuck?
A bone gets "fixated" or stuck because a stressful load has been put on that particular joint by the body for some reason. (We find that many times these joints are incorrectly stressed due to poor postural habits. This can also be caused by activities that you are involved in, or even a repetitive motion you may perform)
If the joint has too much of a stressful load, then the brain tells that joint to stabilize itself from further damage. Again, only a licensed chiropractor can make the determination if the joint needs to be adjusted or not.
